My West Cornwall - Louise Batty, Marketing

What to do and where to go in West Cornwall as picked by Louise

From places to eat and enjoy a pint to events and coastal walks - here are Louise’s top spots to visit while you’re in West Cornwall

Favourite beach: Perranuthnoe beach is definitely one of my favourites - I grew up on this beach and recently got engaged there. I also love Gwynver beach, definitely worth the stairs up and down when the tide is in!

Favourite activity: Walking the South West Coast Path. I think we take it for granted sometimes, but it's one of the best ways to experience Cornwall - my family and I have nearly done all of the Cornish coast.

Favourite attraction: Without a doubt, St Michael's Mount. When I was at primary school my best friend lived on the island, so I've had a connection with the place for a long time. It also signals home to me when I come back to Cornwall. I never get bored of visiting the island and castle. I'd recommend popping over to eat at the Sail Loft and checking out the shops too!

Favourite garden: Again, the one on St Michael's Mount... It is stunning to see plants thrive on a tidal island that is exposed to ALL the elements, and subtropical plants at that. The gardening team have to abseil to maintain some parts of the garden, which in its self is pretty impressive to me!

Favourite walk: All of them! I've so far done the coast path from Plymouth round to Tintagel, and they are all amazing in different ways. But if I had to pick one, probably Zennor to Botallack.

Favourite event: Golowan Festival and Mazey Day in Penzance. It's lovely to see the town come alive with the various events throughout the week leading up to Mazey, including Mock Mayor, the Serpent Dance led by Penglaz, as well as the festivities of Mazey Day itself - colourful processions, food stalls, live music and more!

Favourite sunset spot: Cape Cornwall is probably my favourite, but as we are already so far west you can catch a stunning sunset from so many places!

Favourite storm watching spot: Probably Penzance Promenade. It's not the most scenic of places to some, but it really does put on quite a show when the waves start crashing.

Favourite pub: I have three... my local, The Bath Inn - perfect for a pint and watching rugby or football, for delicious food and an awesome vibe, The Mexico, and for location and food (again), The Unicorn on the Beach

Favourite restaurant: The Shore Restaurant is my number one restaurant, not just in West Cornwall, but in the south-west. If you are a fan of seafood, this is the place for you!

Favourite pasty stop: There are so many good places for a pasty in the area, but I'm going to go with Hampson's of Hayle - it's all about the meat percentage for me!

Favourite spot for a cream tea: The Rockpool Cafe in Mousehole is really cute, but I do love the generous servings and setting down at Porthgwarra Cove Cafe.

Favourite shop: We have lots of lovely independent shops, but it would probably be Morva - let's just say I spend a lot of time (and money) in there! Beautiful handmade gifts, Cornish skincare, candles, prints, jewellery. I could continue...

Favourite drink: Hmm - this is a tough one. I'm a big fan of Polgoon's elderflower cider, but I am always swayed towards the gins from Pocketful of Stones.

Favourite local producer / market: Probably Polgoon Vineyard and Orchard in Penzance, the most south-westerly vineyard in the country. They have a great selection of English wines and ciders, a nice farm shop stocked with tasty treats and a lovely story behind this family-run business.
